CHESTER, PA — October 10, 2024 − Today, Senator John I. Kane (D-Chester/Delaware) announced the approval of $45 million in Multi-Purpose Community Facilities grant funding from the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA). This funding will support 49 projects across 26 Pennsylvania counties, enhancing key community initiatives and improving internet connectivity for residents. As part of this allocation, two organizations in Chester’s 9th Senatorial District will receive a combined total of $2,765,500. The Chester Housing Authority will receive $2,000,000 to launch the Chester E-Health Center project, which aims to address health disparities among seniors, improve access to technology for employment and healthcare, and enhance e-learning and job search capabilities for Chester residents.

Additionally, the Chester Cultural Arts and Technology Center has been awarded $765,500 for its CAAT Expansion project. This funding will support renovations to meet the diverse needs of residents, including infrastructure upgrades, installation of modern amenities, and enhancements to create welcoming and inclusive community spaces.

Senator Kane, who serves on the PBDA board, noted the significance of these awards for the city. “Chester has so much potential, and these projects will help unlock opportunities for our residents. From addressing health disparities to creating inclusive community spaces, these grants will help build a stronger, more connected Chester.”

“I’m thrilled to see these vital projects receive funding,” said Senator Kane. “As someone who’s passionate about both improving connectivity and propelling Chester forward, it’s especially gratifying to see these grants awarded to our community. These investments will make a real difference in the lives of Chester residents, providing better access to healthcare, technology, and community resources.”

The Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program, funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act, offers competitive grants to community anchor institutions and local governments for projects that construct, acquire, or improve public facilities to enable work, education, and health monitoring.
