Chester – January 10 2022 – Today, State Senator John I. Kane (D-Delaware/Chester) announced a $297,000 grant for the Chester Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee (CJATC). Funded through the Pre-Apprentice and Apprenticeship Grant Program, the grant will support CJATC’s five-year apprenticeship program to become a journeyman electrician, consisting of 8,000 on-the-job training hours and 900 hours of classroom and lab training.
“I’m a union guy – I know exactly how important apprenticeship programs like this one are. I wouldn’t be here without mine,” said Senator Kane, who serves as a member of the Senate Labor and Industry Committee. “For folks like me who choose not to pursue higher education, an apprenticeship program is the best way to learn a trade and land a good-paying middle-class job. I’m grateful for the Governor’s commitment to support apprenticeship programs, and I’m proud to be fighting for these programs alongside him.”
In total, over $1.2 million in funding was allocated to apprenticeship programs across the Commonwealth. “Our ongoing support of apprenticeships across Pennsylvania helps workers earn a paycheck while they learn the specialized skills that employers need,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “These programs create talented new pipelines of workers that meet the demands of our existing businesses while also making Pennsylvania more attractive to companies looking to locate here. Apprenticeships are a huge win for both workers and companies alike and the commonwealth is proud to invest in these programs.”
