Chester, PA November 19, 2021 − Senator John I. Kane (D-Delaware, Chester) today announced the award of over $4.1 million in grant funding through the Multimodal Transportation Fund and Act 13’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation and Watershed Restoration Programs.

“Bringing money back into our communities is one of the most rewarding parts of my job, and I’m thrilled to announce so much funding for these critical projects,” said Senator Kane. “These projects are going to make townships and resources more accessible, and support community organizations across Delaware and Chester Counties.”

“I’m especially proud of the $1.4 million we helped secure for the Kennett Greenways project,” Senator Kane continued. “This project will provide an inclusive greenway for residents and help preserve open space in Kennett Square the surrounding area.”

“The Multimodal Transportation Fund continues to enhance connectivity across our state,” said PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian said. “Projects are selected based on regional economic conditions, technical and financial feasibility, safety benefits, energy efficiency, operational sustainability and job creation.”

Multimodal Transportation Fund grants include:

  • $1.4 million for the Kennett Greenway Connectors Birch Street and Magnolia Underpass projects;
  • $910,000 for the Hillman Drive Multimodal Extension;
  • $900,000 for transportation improvements in Edgemont Township;
  • And $500,000 for the Walkable Wallingford initiative in Nether Providence Township.

Act 13 grants include:

  • $167,000 for Weir Park Baseball Complex improvements for the Aston Valley Baseball League;
  • $100,000 for improvements to Oakbourne Park in Westtown Township;
  • $100,000 for watershed restoration on the Sage Road Basin retrofit in Westtown Township;
  • And $30,000 for improvements to Jack’s Park Recreation and GSI in Chester Township.
